Renowned cricket presenter Zainab Abbas picked Pakistan captain Babar Azam over Indian star Virat Kohli as the best batter in the world at the moment.
However, she admitted that fans of Azam, who leads Pakistan in all three formats of the game, are sensitive.
“At the moment, it’s Babar Azam,” Zainab said while responding to a question during Geo News Programme ‘Hasna Mana Hai’.
“Fans of Babar Azam are really sensitive. However, Babar is our pride,” she added.
She also opened up about the most handsome player in the Pakistan team.
“During my time it was Shahid Afridi but currently I think its Naseem Shah,” she said.
Zainab also stated that she would have been a bowler if she played cricket professionally.
“I think I would have been a bowler. There is something inside me about fast bowling,” she said.
“Wasim Akram is my favourite [all-time Pakistani fast bowler],” she added.
Zainab’s current assignment is the ongoing tour of Pakistan by New Zealand.
Pakistan currently lead the five-match ODI series 2-0 after winning the first two matches in Rawalpindi. The other matches of the current series are in Karachi on May 3, 5 and 7.
Earlier, the Black Caps shocked the home side by squaring a preceding five-match Twenty20 series 2-2 despite missing eight players — including skipper Kane Williamson — due to the ongoing Indian Premier League or injury.
Under stand-in skipper Tom Latham, New Zealand adapted to the conditions skillfully, roaring back from 2-0 down to win the third and fifth matches, with the fourth abandoned after rain.
Pakistan have won five of the seven ODI series that Azam has captained. His two losses came against England in 2021 and New Zealand in January this year.
But New Zealand boast recent dominance over Pakistan. Of the last six ODI series between them, New Zealand have won five and drawn one. Their last series defeat against Pakistan was at home in 2011.
